Voice of the Unemployed

Recently I took a
road trip from Jacksonville, FL to Atlanta, GA where I hosted a
free event to help over 300 Atlanta
area Job
Seekers to
network and find
jobs.
This was the first stop before making my
way to Washington DC to visit our nation’s
capitol. The visit to DC
marked the 1 year anniversary when I lost my job
(laid-off by AIG last November 6th). As I stood on the
steps of Capitol Hill, I and others felt
compelled to ask President
Obama to help the unemployed and we publicly
announced a call to action on
behalf of every single American that has lost his or
her
job since the recession began back in 2007. Not only did this call to action air
live via the web, but it was also
recorded (see
video), uploaded to YouTube and sent to the White House.
Less than a week
later, on November 12th, President Obama announced that he would host
a White House jobs summit on December 3rd. With the nation's
unemployment rate at its highest level in 26 years, President Obama plans to
bring together CEO's, small business owners and financial experts to sound out
ideas for continuing to expand the economy and create jobs.
While learning of
this news, it immediately came
to my mind that the
unemployed community needs a voice at this
summit, too. Over the
past 12 months, I have
spent
almost every day
guiding job
seekers, and, despite
experiencing a job loss of my own last year, have been able to
devote
countless hours to building communities both on and offline
to
connect Job Seekers with hiring companies. In the process, I launched a free
job search website for Job Seekers, have hosted and
sponsored numerous free job
recruiting events throughout various communities and have met thousands of
displaced professionals who have inspired me to
work even harder. With the
support of thousands across the country we have created a national grassroots
job movement in a very short
period of time. To this end,
we
must now make sure that our united
voice
is represented and heard on December 3rd in Washington DC.
As of this past
Monday my name is currently on a list of 500 potential guests for the upcoming
summit. I ask that you please take a few minutes of your time to forward this
e-mail directly to the Office of Public Engagement at public@who.eop.gov and let them
know that you would like to nominate Carlos Gil to represent you on December
3rd. It would be my honor and
privilege to represent the
entire job seeking community as a sincere “voice of the unemployed”.

Please
watch the video by clicking here or on the image above and forward this e-mail to your
friends, family members and colleagues. Recession affects everyone.
Together we can make a difference. I can be reached directly at 904-536-5764.
Thanks for your
